TSO brings solar selfconsumption with its ultralight panels to the Spain Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai

  • Being 100% integrated in the Spain Pavilion, the photovoltaic plant designed by TSO, will guarantee not only its sustainability but also a zero-visual impact.

TSO, The South Oracle, a photovoltaic engineering company and pioneer of self-consumption in Spain, is in charge of designing and providing, with its ultralight solar panels, the plant that will supply solar energy to the Spain Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, the first Universal Exhibition to be held in the Middle East and which will be inaugurated on October 20th. This initiative comes after the sponsorship agreement reached with Accion Cultural Española (AC/E), which is the public company responsible for managing Spain’s presence at the Universal and International Exhibitions.

TSO’s directives, Antonio Calo and Cristina Vicente, signed in Madrid’s AC/E headquarters the sponsorship agreement with AC/E Financial Director, Eduardo Fernandez Palomares. Through this agreement, the Sevillian company becomes a “Partner in the construction of the Spain Pavilion”, designed by the studio Amann-Canovas-Maruri (Temperaturas Extremas Arquitectos, S.L.P.).

Continuing its mission to socialize solar energy, TSO is doing its part to make the Spain Pavilion at EXPO 2020 Dubai more sustainable through a state-of-the-art photovoltaic plant. To achieve this goal, the solar plant, of about 60 kWp, will be 100% integrated in the avant-garde construction of the building, guaranteeing a zero-visual impact. This fusion between architecture and engineering will be possible thanks to the ultralight solar panel provided by TSO, whose technical specifications (flexibility, weight of about 3 kg/m² and customization) allow its total adaptation to any surface or structure.

TSO’s engineering team is working with enthusiasm on this project, which is a new milestone in its business career, as it is the company of the Spanish photovoltaic sector that will help in the field of energy efficiency in the construction and in the subsequent operation of the pavilion of its country of origin. In addition to representing it at Expo 2020 Dubai as a pioneer in photovoltaic innovation, TSO has also been operating since September 2018 both in Spain and in the United Arab Emirates.

The Spain Pavilion, of about 6,000 m², will be in the Expo district dedicated to sustainability, under the slogan “Intelligence for Life”. It will feature spectacular architecture, highlighted by its iconic strength, circular economy criteria and a design based on the recycling of its materials. It is conceived as a large square covered by a series of iconic volumes, with parasols of different sizes, on which will be integrated the ultralight TSO panels, which will also carry the colours of the Spanish flag.

The Municipal Police of Pamplona has already the ultralight solar panel of TSO

The Pamplona City Council has chosen TSO’s ultralight panel to install a photovoltaic plant for self-consumption on the new sustainable roof of the Public Safety building, where the Municipal Police is located. The project has been carried out by Construcciones Leache, S. L. with an investment of 197,169 Euros.

This construction company has provided the Public Safety building in Pamplona with a modular roof made of wood from sustainable forests, in which they are integrated 266 ultralight flexible solar panels, which are exclusive products of the Sevillian company TSO, The South Oracle.

The photovoltaic plant of about 80 kW, with an estimated production of 95 MWh per year, will cover up to 20% of the energy consumed by the building. In terms of aesthetics, TSO has guaranteed a zero-visual impact with the total integration of their ultralight panels on the new sustainable roof. This is possible thanks to the technical features of these exclusive solar panels, which are flexible, glassfree, weigh less than 5 kilos and can be customized and adapted to any surface, reducing the installation time by up to 70% compared to that used in photovoltaic installations with conventional panels.

For this project, the ultralight TSO panel selected has no profile, has its junction box on the front and is composed by 60 monocrystalline cells, giving it a maximum power of 290 watts. The photovoltaic plant is made up of 38 rows of seven panels each, all of them bonded with a special polymer along a 900 square meters surface. This roof is supported and fixed on the existing one, serving also as waterproofing and improving the thermal insulation of the building. It is a ‘2 in 1’ system called ‘plug and play’ (roof plus photovoltaic installation) connected to the building’s interior network.

The electrical connection of these panels also presents an innovative solution. It has been integrated into a smart micro-network in the same building using BeePlanet’s reused second life battery storage, V2G technology charging posts for municipal electric vehicles and micro-network control technology developed by CENER. All this action is part of the European Horizon 2020 project called Stardust, to which the Pamplona City Council is a partner.

Furthermore, the Sevillian company TSO is a pioneer in the participation of photovoltaic integration projects in surfaces, buildings or existing structures. Some examples of this are the photovoltaic solar plant integrated in the carports of the Emirates Towers parking lot in Dubai and in the façade of Tower 2 in Seville, being this latter the first architectural integration in an existing façade in Europe.

Onuva, a solidarity focused foster home that relies on TSO for its energy transition and sustainability

  • Onuva is one of the first foster homes in Spain to opt for renewables.
  •  The self-consumption photovoltaic plant has a power of 22 kW and will cover 70% of its daytime electricity demand.

TSO (The South Oracle) has begun the installation of the solar photovoltaic plant for daytime self-consumption in the Onuva Community: a non-profit foster home for people in a situation of social exclusion, sick people without family or people in a situation of abandonment, located in the proximities of the Sevillian town of Puebla del Río. Belonging to the Archdiocese of Seville, this Community is positioned with this project as one of the first foster homes in Spain to bet on renewables.

In this sense, the Onuva Community, also known as Fraternidad de la Madre de Dios (Fraternity of the Mother of God), trusts in TSO’s expertise and begins its energy transition by betting on the consumption of solar energy. To this end, TSO is installing a photovoltaic plant for self-consumption on one of its roofs, which its 22kW power will cover 70% of the Onuva community’s demand of daytime electricity. Respect for the environment and solidarity go hand in hand in this place, forming part of the day-to-day life of its carers, a group of people devoted in body and soul to the neediest and to their well-being on a totally voluntary basis.

TSO has designed a solar plant which, by producing 34,000 kWh per year, will enable the centre to reduce its CO2 emissions by 13,500 kg per year (equivalent to 900 trees). In addition to making Onuva a more sustainable foster home, this TSO project helps them in their energy efficiency, estimating an annual saving of around €5,000 on their electricity bill. The solar plant also includes the maintenance guarantee and the incident or theft insurance offered by TSO to all its customers through the GRAE, the TSO’s remote energy assistance management. The personalised energy coach who, in real time, covers the client’s needs and advises them on everything they may request.

As a TSO customer, Onuva is also benefited by the certification of the photovoltaic plant with the ECO20 seal by ECA Bureau Veritas, the only official certification for self-consumption of electricity from solar energy. These TSO guaranteed services fulfil their mission to socialize solar energy, by making the Onuva Community acquire not only environmental, but also humanitarian and social commitment.

FIRST PPA TO PRODUCE ORGANIC EGGS WITH SOLAR ENERGY

The South Oracle (TSO) is once again a pioneer in promoting self-consumption with solar energy through PPA in Spain. Despensa San Nicolas, a company from Jaen, has relied on TSO’s experience to become the first company to sign a solar PPA in the organic food sector in Spain to produce its organic eggs, characterised by their excellent quality and high nutritional value.

This company, which specialises in organic products, will install TSO’s ultralight flexible panel on the roof of its 700 m2 poultry farm. The installation will have a 10.40 kW power capacity, covering the 100% of its daytime electricity consumption. Thanks to the photovoltaic plant that will cover the roof of the organic egg farm, Despensa San Nicolas will stop emitting circa 145,000 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere within the warranty period of the plant, reducing its carbon footprint by approximately 10,000 trees.

The photovoltaic solar plant allows Despensa San Nicolas to complete its sustainable policy, which is a step forward in the environmental balance of the farm, where the birds are raised in open space conditions within an organic olive grove.

Energy efficiency and ECO20® certification (made with solar energy)

In order to testify its commitment to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, Despensa San Nicolas will be awarded with the ECO20® seal, the only one to guarantee a 100% production with energy from the sun, which is certified by ECA Bureau Veritas.

ROYSE celebrates its 40th Anniversary betting again for self-consumption with TSO

  • TSO will install four new solar plants in the ROYSE delegations of Andalusia and Madrid, which add up to a total of 30 kWp.

  • The bearing company is also committed to the storage of solar energy thanks to the batteries offered by TSO.

Once again, the ROYSE Group, Bearings and Services, S.L. relies on TSO, The South Oracle, for its experience in the solar photovoltaic sector, to expand its self-consumption offer with the installation of four new solar plants between its delegations of Andalusia and Madrid.

The company, one of the world leaders in bearings, celebrates its 40th Anniversary, joining the energy transition with TSO and beginning a new stage oriented towards environmental sustainability. For this, the total power contracted will be about 30 kWp, estimating an annual production well above 40,000 kWh per year. With this power distributed among the new four photovoltaic plants, ROYSE will achieve a reduction of 16 tons in its annual CO2 emissions, equivalent to 1,066 trees. In addition, the company is committed to energy storage with the installation of innovative batteries offered by TSO, which will allow ROYSE to consume clean energy at night.

TSO is once again the company chosen by ROYSE for the design and installation of its new solar plants, thanks to the quality, profitability and excellence of its exclusive ultralight flexible solar panel, PSFU (eArche®). We remind that the bearing firm has benefited from the energy self-consumption of the hand of TSO since last July, in two of its delegations in Seville capital. Both located in the Parsi Industrial Area, one of 27 kWp and another of 5.3 kWp.

According to the data of our monitoring system, the photovoltaic plant of greater power (27 kWp) has generated savings of 25% in its first six months of life (from July to December 2018). This percentage translates into about 3,000 euros of savings in the electricity bill and a reduction of more than 10 tons in CO2 emissions.

Self-consumption and solar energy.

The solar self-consumption allows to produce a part (or the whole) of the electric energy for its direct consumption in our house or business, through solar panels. Since October 9, 2015, with the publication of Royal Decree 900/2015, this type of green energy production, and its electrical consumption, is a legal and profitable alternative, while reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

There are isolated self-consumption installations that are not connected to the mains. However, most of the facilities are connected. In this case, the owner consumes his own green energy produced by solar panels. The excess is poured directly into the net as well, if more energy is required than that produced by the photovoltaic system, it is acquired from the electrical grid. With this modality, you optimize your electricity consumption, being able to save up to 50% in the light bill, besides having access to the electric 24 hours a day.

Although solar energy is based on the use of solar radiation, significant savings are obtained on the bill of light even in less sunny places than the south of Spain, and also on cloudy and rainy days, as the panels are still working. In fact, Germany has more photovoltaic installations than Spain.

Betting on self-consumption through solar energy means that, part of the energy consumed, is generated by solar panels installed in your business or home. This is transformed into a savings in the electricity bill, a reduction in CO2 emissions and thus contributes to create a greener world. So far, solar panels used to be installed on the roof, but TSO’s ultra-light flexible solar panels also allow for a facade installation.

Solar self-consumption in companies

Solar self-consumption is suitable and viable for any type of company or industry. The economic benefit (savings in electricity consumption bills) is more significant in those that concentrate the largest electricity expenditure during the day. The installation of solar panels for self-consumption provides several benefits in small and large companies, hotels and restaurants, farms, cattle ranches, as well as in schools, business centers and offices. In this way, the economic saving and the lowering of the energy costs is only one point in favor of the solar self-consumption. By creating and consuming green energy, we minimize CO2 emissions, helping to preserve our planet.

In addition, society is increasingly aware of renewable energies, and demands greater environmental commitment from companies.

With the installation of the TSO Solar Kit, you obtain the certification “ECO20 ®: Made with solar energy” which guarantees that during the production process much of the energy used is 100% of solar origin, thus attesting that the production in your company is done with solar energy and therefore adding a differential value to your business. Betting on solar energy increases corporate social responsibility and improves the brand image.

Self-consumption at home

Solar consumption also increases the value of its property by 4% compared to other similar properties. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Even estimates this increase, and according to statistical data, a typical single-family house with a solar self-consumption facility of 2 KW will increase its value by €10,600. Even real estate agencies confirm that a home with solar consumption is sold more quickly.

Self-consumption in neighboring communities

Spain is one of the European countries where more people reside in blocks of flats. Currently 66% of the Spanish population lives in neighboring communities. To meet the energy needs of the common areas of these buildings, the installation of solar panels and self-consumption are an ideal solution to lower the cost of light.

paneles solares flexibles tso en viviendasDespite all the advantages of self-consumption and the hours of sunshine that we enjoyed in Spain, in August 2016, only 75 photovoltaic installations of self-consumption were recorded, that to this day have risen to the figure of 351, all of small supplies of power inferior to 10kW in the Register of self-consumption.  Remember, solar self-consumption is legal and profitable.

If you are interested in solar consumption, we advise you on which installation is best for your case, we inform you about the possible incentives and subsidies available and we take care of all the procedures and the technical installation. All this so you can produce your own green energy, with your TSO Solar photovoltaic Kit.
